Landing.careers Festival is a tech careers event where you’ll be able to meet 1500 tech minds, 30 insightful speakers and 60 selected companies. It will happen on June 2 and 3 in Lisbon. I talked with Pedro Oliveira, co-founder of Landing.jobs, the company that puts together the event.
How did the idea for the Landing.careers Festival come about?
We’ve had organised a couple of festivals before this one, in 2015 and 2016. In 2015 we did it to launch our brand “Landing.jobs” into the market. In 2016 we did it again in a form of job fair. In the 2017 edition we’re upgrading the festival from a job fair to a careers moment.
For the 2017 edition we decided to re-think the whole festival concept from scratch and align it with Landing.jobs vision of a world where tech professionals are equipped with the right tools to steer their tech careers.
In the end, this edition’s idea was a constructive team process overall.
How has the event been growing from year to year?
We don’t want the festival to become a massive “Web Summit like” moment, it’s a more focused and selective community moment. Having said that we’ve grown from 600 attendees in 2015, to 1200 in 2016 and 1500 this year!
The event focuses on building tech careers. How do you propose to do this?
We’ve created a concept that focus around future, tech and careers which are the three necessary ingredientes to re-shape/think your career.
In specific, we’re putting together a series of workshops and expert sessions with this specific aim.
What can tech professionals expect from the Festival?
Lots of learning, networking, building, meet & greet with companies and peers, and fun.
I hope it’s a mind opening event above all.
What are the main highlights this year?
I think the biggest highlight is the keynote fireside chat with Joel Gascoigne, the CEO of Buffer.
Are there plans to expand beyond Lisbon?
Interesting question, we’ve been approached by several other cities to move out of Lisbon. I’d love to create another event of this kind in Porto. One day…
Is there place for fun at the event?
Oh boy. I’m just going to share that the first day (2nd of June) closes with a stand-up comedy show by Tim FitzHigham.
