Of New Beginnings

The feeling of starting something new is one I really enjoy. All seems possible, and the excitement is high. I’ve started many things, some continued and some didn’t. It’s all part of the process of figuring out what you really love to do. When it comes to the things that stick, don’t think it’s easy. It requires huge amounts of dedication, patience and hard work.

Coffeepaste is an example of that (in Portuguese). It started back in 2006 as a simple blog with classifieds for the Arts community. It takes a daily effort to keep it up to date with all the new information that reaches us. Other people have come up with similar projects. Most of them didn’t last. They probably thought it was easy work, or that huge amounts of money were to be made. This is simply not true. It’s a work of passion, and if you lack that you’re in trouble. In later posts, I’ll go deeper into Coffeepaste and share some of my experiences.

This site is also the start of something new. I’ve been working in IT for 17 years now (wow!), all in web related projects. I’ve had several sites and blogs over the years, but none specifically dedicated to technology. Nowadays my main interests lie in Digital Marketing (Social Media, SEO, Analytics, PPC, …) and all web related issues. So expect posts about this stuff.

I’d like to point out some of my biggest inspirations to start this project, and people I learn from immensely:

Mitch Joel
Mitch is a  digital marketing specialist, and the author of two books. His latest, Ctrl Alt Delete is a must read if you want to make a difference in this area. He blogs daily and I never miss a post.

Lynn Terry
Lynn is an internet marketer and super affiliate who runs ClickNewz. I belong to her Brainstorming Group and I attend a weekly virtual gathering where we hear from Lynn and exchange our online challenges and experiences. This is a great way to be reminded of small (and big) details that may not occur to you when working on your own. She also made me realize that it’s better to launch something even if you don’t think it’s perfect yet, than not launch at all.

Gary Vaynerchuck
I’ve been following Gary for years now, since the times of Wine Library TV. He tells it like it is, and is the person to turn to for Social Media expertise. I buy his books as soon as they come out. I am currently reading Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook, and loving it. I’ll share my thoughts in detail after I finish it.

These are challenging but great times to live in. Technology changes at such a rapid pace that you have to constantly be learning and keeping up. There is great opportunity for new ventures, and I’ll talk about the ones I find most promising.
