I’ve had the domain pedromendes.com since 2001. And even before that, I can’t exactly remember when, I’ve had a personal website. Geocities was my friend back then (does anyone remember?).
We’re talking really early days of the web. If you’re younger than 30, you won’t believe how things had to be made back then. We were few, learning by trial and error, as well as from others.
One of these others was Jeffrey Zeldman. Ever since he started working on the web, he has shared his knowledge and experience with the rest of us, through his website and, later, at A List Apart, An Event Apart, and A Book Apart.
People like Zeldman and Molly Holzschlag (btw, help Molly) started the The Web Standards Project to establish standards on web design. Zeldman wrote the book on it, which I consumed and implemented immediately.
This great documentary marks the 20 years Zeldman has been a player in the web community, helping others build a better web.
If you’ve been in the web business for a while, you’ll recognize a lot he talks about. If you haven’t, watch and learn from the master. Respect.
