Advertising has been facing great challenges in the past few years. With the widespread access to the internet and social media, people’s attention is more and more scattered. It takes much more to catch people’s eyeballs today than it used to.
AT&T found a way to entertain while conveying their brand. They came up with a clever way to engage people using humor and people’s passion about sport.
The result is the ad you see below, describing how people can interact to predict basketball results with a twist. The twist? Take the word of the people who know the sport less, and not the experts’.
This turned out much more effective than pushing messages randomly. People watched the ad and actually enjoyed it.
The results? 52 million media impressions in the USA alone, broad attention from the media (online and offline), and 2 million twitter posts.
